The Air Pruning method of growing uses these prune pots to help dry out roots and essentially “prune” them while they grow. How? Well, when your plant grows its roots they can grow downward or around the pot. When they grow around the pot they’ll grow in a circle around the pot, which can lead to poor nutrient uptake and can even “strangle” your roots, stressing your plant because it will struggle to take up nutrients. But in a prune pot pot roots will avoid that by growing outward and poking through the fabric. When they do, those roots will be dehydrated, forcing your plant to make secondary branch roots. Those roots will grow, and once part of them dehydrates, you’ll grow two more shoots from it. Introducing air in to your root system will force it to create more roots, allowing for maximum nutrient uptake, which will give you considerably larger yields and more complex root systems than before.
And growing in these pots couldn’t be easier. To use them indoors, all you have to do is set the pot on a bucket or tray and water them, collecting any water that may come out of the fabric. Or you can use them outside with ease: either dig a hole and plant the entire pot right down in the ground, or set the pot on top of the dirt, water, and watch your plants grow. Once you’re finished with them you can either scrub them down with some calcium and salt remover, wash them, and reuse them; or you can slice them off the plant, peel them off, and throw them away.
